Tab and Link Manager 4 Overview

Currently Supports: vBulletin 4.0.2 - 4.2.0

NOTE: This product will only work with vBulletin version 4.2.0 as long as Tab and Link Manager is installed in Total Replacement Mode.

The Tab And Link Manager engine is a total replacement for the default vBulletin NavBar (when installing in Total Replacement Mode), and unlike any similar products out there (free or otherwise), this product totally replaces the NavBar, there bypassing the limitations inherent in the default vBulletin NavBar. You may well have already used the free lite version of this product; Tab and Link Manager Lite that we released at vBulletin.org that gives you a limited subset of features which are present in this product.

Tab and Link Manager is designed to be used by forum administrators with absolutely no programming knowledge at all (although it can be pretty handy for administrators that have programming knowledge too).

The AdminCP utility is very easy to use, and in a few minutes can have your site's NavBar using custom tabs with links and submenu links setup how you want, in the order you want them in, and each tab, link and submenu link is individually controlled by usergroup permissions and script conditionals for more flexibility.

Although the initial installation of the product can be a little daunting for vBulletin novices, we do provide fully documented step-by-step instructions for you to follow.

For multi-language forums, all tab, link and submenu link titles can be phrased, so different text will appear depending on which language you select.

All links and submenu links can be individually targeted to open in same web browser window/tab or another web browser window/tab.

All tabs can be positioned individually in three different locations on the NavBar.

Tabs can be one of five different types (vBulletin default type, and four custom types).

The Forum type tab is demonstated above for guests (click the Forum Type tab on the NavBar above, shows highlighting of the correct forum tab in any forum, sub-forum or thread under that tab).

The Dropdown type tab is demonstated above (click the Links tab on the NavBar above, shows a dropdown tab, with links).

However, please note that this product in no way has any control over your existing tabs, links or submenu links, it will only control the ones that have been created using this product. But fear not, you can totally replace the existing NavBar with the Tab and Link Manager engine for total control of your tabs, links and submenu links.

For a demonstration of the front-end, you can view it in action here at Wolfshead Solutions. Just use any of the tabs on our NavBar, all of which were created and are currently being rendered by this product.

To demonstate the versitility of this product, you may notice on the Products tab, the tab itself and all associated links being rendered are "SEO Friendly URLs".

To view what the back-end looks like, please refer to the screenshots tab for this product.

This product works with vBulletin's Publishing Suite (we use the Publishing Suite here, but we have disabled the CMS and Blog, as there is no need for it at the moment) as well as Forum Classic, and now works with vBulletin's Project Tools.

IMPORTANT: Just a note of caution; when you install this product in Total Replacement Mode it totally replaces the default vBulletin NavBar and any third-party products that add links and/or sub-menu links to the default tabs (Forum, What's New, Home, Blogs or Project) on the NavBar will no longer be able to add them automatically as the template hooks associated with the default tabs will no longer be available and the links and/or sub-menu links will need to be re-created in Tab and Link Manager. We only provide Tab and Link Manager xml definition files for vanilla vBulletin products (Forum Classic, Publishing Suite & Project Tools Open Source). Help with re-creating tabs, links or sub-menu links for third-party products can be asked for in the support forum for this product.

All of these features are shown in the screenshots as well.

  • Ability to toggle on/off the Home & Blog default vBulletin tabs (only in Total Replacement Mode)
  • Ability to toggle on/off the Forum & What's New default vBulletin tabs (only in Total Replacement Mode via a template edit & importing a definition file into the T&LM database via impex)
  • Ability to toggle on/off the Projects tab
  • Ability to toggle on/off the Global Search Box (only in Total Replacement Mode)
  • Four new Tab types: Dropdown (tabs can now be dropdown menus themselves), URL Matching (to allow for more than one tab to point to the same file, bypassing the THIS_SCRIPT limitations caused by the default NavBar), vBCMS (specifically to create vBCMS tabs using nodeids) & Forum (specifically to create forum tabs using forumids).
  • Tab, Link and SubMenu Link images (only with tabs, links and submenu links created using this product).

  • The tab highlights correctly when you select it.
  • Script conditionals; allows for more control over each Tab, Link and SubMenu link, using conditional statements such as $show['searchbuttons'] && $show['member']
  • Multiple THIS_SCRIPT names: allows multiple locations to highlight a single tab (Normal tabs).
  • Multiple relative/full urls: allows different content from a single file (such as vBCMS) to highlight several tabs correctly (URL_Matching tabs).
  • For viewers that have cookies disabled, all Tabs, Links and SubMenu links have the session hash correctly added to it
  • For W3C standards purists the (x)html link target attribute has been replaced for Tabs, Links and SubMenu links with the standards compliant rel attribute (via custom javascript) which emulates the target attribute and allows all xhtml generated by T&LM itself to 100% validate with W3C.
  • You can also add nofollow to your tabs, links and submenu links
  • You can export your T&LM database to an xml definition file (all tabs, links and submenu links).
  • You can also export your Tab Add System (sstab advanced) tabs and links
  • You can import your saved T&LM xml definition file into this product (all tabs, links and submenu links).
  • You can do a Version Check to keep this product up to date, just like they do at vBulletin.org.
  • And more!
