I have released a new hack to both my subscribed members and vBulletin.org simultaneously.
vBulletin2Twitter is my version of Buro9's vBulletin To Twitter hack (he marked it as Re-usable Code), which has been made into a product and has extra functionality, which includes an alternative url shortening service is.gd as well as options to tweet replies as well as new threads.
I have been using this hack here at Wolfshead Solutions for a while and have had no issues at all (at the moment the only forum that is vBulletin2Twitter enabled is the Announcements forum).
Depending on the options you select in the AdminCP, you can:
- Automatically create a new tweet when you create a new thread only
- Automatically create a new tweet when you post a new reply/quick reply to a thread only
- Automatically create a new tweet when you create a new thread and post a new reply/quick reply
These tweets are live updates... they are not delayed, they not based on RSS... the instant the thread is started or you post a new reply/quick reply in a vBulletin2Twitter enabled forum, a tweet is made at the same time.
From monitoring Buro9's thread I noticed that a lot of people have been having problems related to bit.ly, mainly due to JSON, safe_mode and open_basedir generated errors, so I also added the is.gd url shortening service, as you do not require JSON support and the API does not require you to register with the site.
The reason for the simultaneous release is that I am not the sole author of this hack, being based on the one created by Buro9.
Support as usual will only be provided to members who have purchased a vBulletin.org Hacks Support subscription, please read Question: How do I get support for your vBulletin.org Hacks? for more information on how to subscribe.
Hope you enjoy the hack.
Mosh Shigdar, Wolfshead Solutions.
